Daft punk helmet

Helmet Thomas Bangalter

This helmet took me about 3 months to complete.  This was the second helmet of the duo DJ group Daft Punk.  This helmet had many challenges as the electronics involved an LED matrix where animations can scroll through the visor.

Similar to the first helmet, my starting point was with a raw resin cast with detached dome ears.

The process

Resin Cast

Resin cast with silver chrome and tinted PETG visor.  Separate ear domes.

  • I bought the resin cast from a prop maker Volpin Props.  He only ran a limited batch of casts from his mold, and I was lucky enough to get a unit.
  • Unlike the previous helmet, this one did not come with a visor  So, I had to tint it myself.
  • Most of the work done was learning how to prepare the cast for chroming. Filling in imperfections.
